I’m Tarissa Wynne Ting. I started Cult Suri in 2022 at 16, while still in high school in Jakarta, driven by a passion for beautiful dresses and a desire to bridge the gap between low-quality trends and mature brands in Southeast Asia. Now, I run the brand while studying in Sydney.
OUR BRAND STORY:
We’re a brand for romantics who love dressing up just because. A big turning point was when our dresses featured in two No Na music videos (the girl group under 88 rising)—a surreal moment! We used to doubt if there was a lasting market for our feminine, daring styles in conservative Indonesia. That moment proved we have product-market fit—our audience craves dainty, sexy silhouettes and isn’t afraid to show it!
OUR BRAND NAME:
I love the idea of a “cult”—not the creepy kind haha, but the kind that brings people together. While some see it as obsessiveness, I see it as a shared passion for dressing up and feeling beautiful. “Suri” means princess, reflecting our feminine roots.
OUR DESIGN INSPIRATION:
Everything inspires me! I dig through early 2000s runway shows, revisit beloved pieces, and watch street style. Living in Sydney, I admire Aussie brands’ resort and floral styles. I blend these whimsical designs with the functional features Southeast Asian girls want.
OUR PROUDEST MOMENT FROM OUR JOURNEY SO FAR
Building our community of dreamgirls since 2022, when Indonesia’s fashion scene hadn’t embraced feminine, romantic styles yet. We were among the first in this space, and seeing girls fall for our pieces makes it all worthwhile.
OUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE:
We’re eager to collaborate with like-minded brands to grow the Cult Suri universe and dream of hosting a grand summer garden party with girls dressed to the nines in our pieces!
ONE THING YOU SHOULD KNOW…
When I first started visiting factories, I’d ask my older brother to come with me and pretend he was the boss. They'd usually take him more seriously than a teenage, female founder, hahaha!
